Meet Brian

Brian Varela is a first-generation American, entrepreneur, father, and community leader fighting to ensure that every family has a fair shot at the American Dream.

Born and raised in New Jersey to Colombian immigrant parents, Brian learned early on what it meant to work hard. His parents—his mother a waitress and factory worker, his father a limo and truck driver—did everything they could to provide for their family. Their sacrifices instilled in Brian the values of perseverance, resilience, and service to others.

Brian put himself through college, working full-time while going to school full-time and finishing in 3.5 years, graduating with honors. When his mother was diagnosed with cancer, his parents went out of business and Brian stepped up to become the breadwinner of his family. After her passing, he stepped up again to raise his 13-year-old brother, continued to work in corporate America to provide for his family, and eventually took the leap into entrepreneurship.

Brian first built a successful marketing agency, which later led him into the childcare industry—helping NJ Families access early education. His business was later recognized by Inc. Magazine as one of the fastest-growing companies in the country.

But Brian’s commitment to his community goes beyond business—he is a fighter for democracy, economic opportunities, and real change. He has led grassroots efforts across New Jersey, organizing communities, founding the Morris Dems Hispanic Caucus, and advocating for democracy reforms like Ranked Choice Voting to give power back to the people.

Brian believes that leadership isn’t about sitting on the sidelines—it’s about stepping up when the stakes are high. Now, he’s fighting for a future where families can thrive, where working people are prioritized, and where democracy works for all of us.
